About the Role

Join our team for this exciting opportunity as a Grade 1 social worker. This role is a full time permanent position that commences with a 3 year rotation across different clinical areas within the Monash Children’s and Community Programs. You will spend 12 months in each area - Monash Health Community (Child and Family Team), Monash Children’s Hospital (acute team) and the Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service (based at the Clayton Campus). 

This is a unique opportunity to join the Allied Health teams in the Monash Children’s and Community Programs. It is an integral role within supportive & professional teams. 

  • Full-time permanent role

  • Commencing with a 3 year rotation across different paediatric and women’s health clinical areas with excellent skill development opportunities 

 

About Us

Social Workers at Monash Health Community and Monash Children’s Hospital are part of the broader Monash Children’s Allied Health Team, and together we provide specialised services to infant, paediatric and adolescent patients and their families. Social work services are provided in community settings (outreach), inpatient and outpatient settings.  

  

Monash Health Community – Health Mothers Healthy Babies

Within HMHB you will provide outreach support to pregnant women experiencing psychosocial complexities. You will support women to access antenatal care and other social support services to address maternal risk factors and improve health and wellbeing outcomes for the women, their babies and families. 

  

Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service

In VPRS at Monash Health you will see a combination of inpatient and ambulatory clients who require time limited, goal focused and interdisciplinary rehabilitation. As a state-wide service you may also need to travel to other VPRS sites  

  

Monash Children’s Allied Health

At Monash Children’s Hospital you will be part of a dedicated Allied Health team supporting a diverse paediatric population across both inpatient wards and outpatient clinics. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and their families as they navigate the healthcare system.  

These positions play a vital role in providing psychosocial support to children and families during their healthcare journey. It involves providing compassionate counselling and supportive care, coordinating discharge planning, and facilitating referrals to external agencies. The role requires a holistic, systems-based approach to care, with a strong emphasis on risk management and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and community services. Advocacy for patients and families is central to achieving optimal outcomes in a fast-paced clinical environment. To succeed in this dynamic setting, strong communication, organisational, and advocacy skills are essential. 

  

About You  

To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge: 

  • Demonstrated expertise in psychosocial and risk assessments, discharge planning, and problem-solving. 

  • A sound understanding of relevant legislation and frameworks, including the Children, Youth and Families Act, and the ability to apply these in practice. 

  • Experience supporting families through adjustment to illness or disability, including grief and bereavement support. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and collaborative approach to care. 

  • A proactive, flexible, and innovative mindset, with a commitment to continuous professional development. 

You will receive regular supervision from experienced social work leaders and have access to ongoing learning opportunities within a supportive and forward-thinking team. 

  

What you will need: 

  • An AASW accredited Bachelor degree or entry level Master’s Degree of Social Work that provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers 

  • Good organisational skills and a positive, enthusiastic attitude towards work 

  • Able to work autonomously 

  • Well-developed clinical assessment and complex discharge planning skills  

  • A passion to develop skills in paediatric and women’s health social work 

  • A current Victorian drivers licence
