About the Department / Program 

The Monash Health Gender Clinic is Australia’s oldest gender service and a state-wide service providing client-centred care for transgender, gender diverse and non-binary (TGDNB) people. 

The Gender Clinic supports gender affirmation through: 

• Providing a safe and supportive environment for consumers exploring gender identity and transition options. 

• Conducting assessments for consumers seeking medical transition in line with best-practice guidelines. 

• Identifying and addressing mental and physical health needs that may impact transition. 

• Providing endocrinology, voice training and gender-affirming laser hair removal services. 

• Facilitating referrals to appropriate health, social and peer support services. 

• Providing discretionary support for private surgeries where appropriate. 

• Delivering community education on healthcare for gender-diverse consumers. 

The multidisciplinary team also provides education and support to health professionals, community and advocacy groups. The program has longstanding partnerships with specialist services, universities and international stakeholders to advance understanding of gender diversity and reduce barriers to trans-affirming care. 

You will join a multidisciplinary team including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, speech pathologists, administration, research, project and peer workers. 

About the Role 

Join our team as a Senior Speech Pathologist on a Part-Time (0.8 EFT, 4 days per week), ongoing basis at the Monash Health Gender Clinic, based at the Victorian Pride Centre in St Kilda. 

Working under the leadership of the Operations Manager and as part of the broader Gender Clinic team, you will: 

• Support the development and delivery of the Gender Clinic’s voice and communication program. 

• Provide evidence-based, gender-affirming assessment, therapy and treatment planning. 

• Monitor outcomes and adapt care to achieve safe, sustainable and client-centred goals. 

• Provide specialist consultation and clinical supervision within the multidisciplinary team. 

• Lead quality improvement, service development, data monitoring and research activities. 

• Work flexibly across Monash Health sites and hybrid settings as required. 

About You 

To be successful in this role, you will bring the following.

Essential:

• Demonstrated experience providing gender-affirming voice services, including assessment, intervention, care planning and referral pathways. 

• Experience providing speech pathology assessment and intervention within mental health services. 

• Experience providing clinical supervision to junior, graduate and student speech pathologists. 

• Experience leading or contributing to quality improvement, service development and/or research. 

• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver evidence-based education and professional development. 

• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and professional growth. 

• Eligibility for membership with Speech Pathology Australia. 

• Ability to meet required employment screening requirements, including a National Police Check, Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) and, where relevant, Aged Care Worker Screening and NDIS Worker Screening. 

Desirable:

• Minimum five years' relevant clinical experience within mental health services. 

• Knowledge and experience in the assessment, diagnosis and management of voice and swallowing disorders. 

• Knowledge of neurodiversity-affirming practice, including assessment and reasonable adjustments to support participation and engagement.
