About Monash Health Pathology Service
Monash Health Pathology is an integral part of Monash Health. It is the largest public provider of Pathology services in the state and currently operates 6 laboratories. The largest of these is located at the Monash Medical Centre, Clayton, with additional laboratories located at the Casey, Dandenong, Moorabbin, Victorian Heart Hospital and Wonthaggi Hospitals. There is currently 22 collection locations based within the hospital sites and community settings. Services are provided to the Public and Private sectors, and other laboratory services.
You will be joining Monash Health at an exciting time as we work in partnership with Alfred Health to be the premier shared public pathology service in Victoria. As a member of the pathology team you will be helping shape the direction of the partnership.
About the Role
This is a key role in the Pathology service at the Wonthaggi Laboratory. Working closely with the Pathology leadership team, you will lead by example, being primarily accountable for ensuring that the team is appropriately resourced to perform its functions effectively. Your responsibilities will be varied and will include:
- Managing the laboratory operations on a day-to-day basis;
- Guiding, training and educating laboratory employees to ensure they are appropriately skilled to perform their job roles to a high standard;
- Taking a lead role in setting performance standards for the team and reviewing performance on a regular basis;
- Ensuring that all tests are performed correctly and within specified turnaround timeframes;
- Investigating and resolving technical difficulties when they occur; and
- Communicating/escalating to Pathology management any difficulties, concerns or errors identified;
- Leading and expanding the services as required.
About You
You hold a degree in Science, Applied Science (MLS) or a recognised equivalent and have extensive relevant laboratory experience. This position will provide an opportunity to develop management skills and to lead and manage a team successfully. You have superior technical prowess and problem solving ability. You have sound strategic knowledge and drive to be able to continually improve and expand the Casey service as is required. Relevant postgraduate qualifications (or working towards) will be highly regarded.
Qualifications/registrations/licences:
- Bachelor’s degree in science or in applied science, or an equivalent qualification.
- Postgraduate qualifications (or working towards) will be highly regarded.
- Experience in managing a pathology service with a comprehensive range of tests.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in relevant medical laboratory experience.
Technical skills/knowledge/experience:
- Appropriate training and experience.
- Demonstrated resource and personnel management skills.
- Extensive experience as a laboratory leader and senior scientist in relevant discipline.
- Proven ability to manage a NATA accredited laboratory and maintain NATA accreditation.
- Proven ability to supervise laboratory staff and students.
- Track record in designing and implementing new services.
- Demonstrated leadership capability
